Now That it’s Au

Feb 05, 2024Feb 05, 2024

Welcome to August, the eighth month on the Gregorian calendar. Did you know that KLAQ is observing the month as Au-GHOST?

Well, we are and we have a great fly-away to Phoenix to see Ghost. All you have to do is listen to the Morning Show to tell you what the Ghost Song of the Day is and then call in when you hear it.

But, what comes after Au-Ghost?

As long as I’ve worked in rock radio (a long time) September is known as ZEP-tember. Zep-tember segues flawlessly into Rock-tober. But then after that, all the themed rock months go away (at least until MAY-tallica).

Shouldn’t the OTHER months also have rock-themed tie-ins? I’ve always thought so. Here’s what I’ve come up with.

November is a tough one. The best I’ve been able to come up with is “Aldo Nova-ember”, but how many times can we play “Fantasy” for an entire month?

December combines one of my favorite bands and Spanish. I just can’t wait until AC/DC-iembre.

January will henceforth be known as “Pearl Jam-uary”. I hope they’re touring so we’ll have a cool trip to give away.

March is another tough one, but as long as Jared Leto has his band project going we can observe “30 Seconds to March”.

April will be “April Wine” with “Roller” and “Sign of the Gypsy Queen” running on a non-stop 30-day loop.

As mentioned, May is for May-tallica and July will be, if Joanna Barba gets her way, Jul-Iron Maiden.

That leaves only two months without rock/pun tie-ins: February and June. February is so short that it may not be worth the effort. If we need to, I guess we could make the second month all about the Beatles and call it “Fab-ruary”.
